The day after SERVEday is like the day after Christmas. Christmas is insane and wonderful and usually feels like a beautiful blur. But the day after is the one where you wake up, things have calmed down a bit, and you get to stop and really look at the gifts you've just been given. That's how today felt at #HighlandsWL. There were SO many gifts to be admired. Yesterday genuinely sparked something in our Cafe family. One of them set foot back in church for the first time in years and recommitted his life to Jesus. One brought his sons to church and promised to lead them with the example of God's fatherly love all the days of his life. One's earthly father just passed away -but he's here - being comforted by his true Father. One isn't sure about Jesus just yet -but he's listening and finding the truth - brick by brick, people. Brick by brick. One by one. I can't believe this is my life. •
Massive honor goes to my girls, Bri and Aisa. Their love for people is unmatched. #TheThreeLilNuns#SERVEday17#SERVEdayStories#DayAfterChristmas#Treasures#IsThisRealLife#HeavensGettingBigger#ForReal#SERVEdayEVERYday#Jesus
My "one" story from #SERVEday17:
A couple of weeks ago, we had a Leaders night at the Dream Center. One of our friends from the community knocked on the door, and tho he wasn't technically a "leader" yet, we let him crash the party.
He sat with us, ate dinner, and heard an incredible leadership talk from Ps Dino about how the Kingdom of God is built one brick at a time.
That concept stuck with Marvin. That night he told us that he was going to change his life, brick by brick, and then he's going to help us tear down walls for others in the same way.
The next day he came to serve in Fairfield for tornado relief. And ever since he's been constantly growing in his leadership.
He's shared a message in our cafe, getting on his knees with tears in his eyes leading his bros and sisters in prayer.
He's been intentional to minister to the other men in our community and has even helped run the Cafe.
Marvin hosted his own SERVEday project today - a free car wash at the DC. He and his crew (shout out to @modern_moses for making magic happen) washed THIRTY cars.
Not only is Marvin changed but he is changing others lives, too. Today, Mr D, another one of our Cafe fam, told Marvin that because of his prayer and leadership in the Cafe, it has inspired him to step up and serve, too.
Mr D went all out for SERVEday today. Giving free lemonade and popcorn to everyone. And helping anywhere he could all day long. Every time we turned around he was loving and caring for someone.
Brick by brick. One by one. This is how Gods Kingdom is built. This is how Heaven gets bigger.
My fellas at Marvin's Free Car Wash. This picture has more story to it than I can unravel. But it's definitely one of my "one" moments today. #SERVEday17
SERVEday Eve is similar to Christmas Eve for me. Can't sleep, jitters, dreaming of what tomorrow holds. It will never cease to blow my mind that we are invited to help expand the very dimensions of Heaven. By serving ONE person at a time. I love Jesus, man. •
Tomorrow, don't forget to:
1) Go slow
2) Look people in the eyes and see Jesus through them
3) Find your "one"...they are the treasures!
4) Embrace the crazy and have FUN!!!! •
You guys up for one last #SERVEbrew on this lovely #SERVEday17 Eve?? Live at 10:30am Central. (Link in bio)
Singin' Melinda always gives me the honor of drawing her signs when she visits Cafe. I thought for a while about how I could use that as an opportunity to let her shine. In the days to come, I'm sure she'll have plenty of signs asking for a dollar or a meal ...and hopefully one day she won't even need them anymore. But for TODAY I wanted to let her know that SHE has something to GIVE. And that is to brighten the world with her joy and Jesus' love. She has a voice. She has a gift. And the world needs her to shine. And she does so. In her own beautiful way. •
So if you see her make sure you thank her for brightening the world. •
My sweet sweet family. I cant imagine a day without them. •
Cafe days....cafe....days. •
All on their own, this little group formed around our sister, Cynthia, who's been in an awful accident, to pray and ask for her healing. •
They're seeing themselves as true brothers and sisters in Christ... empowered by His Spirit to believe for big things. •
Oh the victories that are happening in this little family...they may seem small- but I promise you, they are reflected brighter than you can imagine in Heaven. •
