One of the best pitchers to ever play baseball never went to showcases, played travel ball, or paid for a lesson or training (7th winningest lefty of ALL-TIME.) This element is missing in today's youth athlete I believe. Not that books are the way to go to learn much of anything these days with technology bringing us immediate sources to our fingertips. The element I am talking about is that desire, being internally self-driven to imagine a goal or dream, and do what it takes to get there. All too often these days kids are "given" everything in regards to sports. High level equipment, over-priced lessons, purchased showcases, unnecessary travel teams, poorly developed training. You don't see the kid standing outside of his house swinging a bat imagining he is his favorite player. You don't see the kid throwing against a wall or shooting hoops by herself with that look in their eyes that they are in game 7 of the World Series or NBA finals. There's no more doing what it takes to get to where YOU want to be in life....GRIT. 1000 reps. Hours of practice. Determination. Tenacity. Accountability. Effort. Perseverance. Even in health everyone wants you to "heal me", "fix me", "make me better." I'm all about using the resources we have available to us to be the best version of ourselves.  But it MUST come from inside of each person...your WHY. No doctor can save you. No coach can make you better. No parent can grant wishes. And no priest can orate you to heaven. If you want something...work your ass off and get it. Around two years ago I booked my first commercial in LA with @TommyJohnWear called The Big Adjustment. Lol pretty self explanatory lol. Sports Anatomy: The Ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) is located on the medial or inside portion of the elbow. In throwing, especially pitching, there are enormous forces that act on the UCL. Studies have described the amount of torque on the inner elbow as being between 40-60lbs when the arm is cocked to throw. 
When the UCL is torn, Tommy John surgery aka UCL reconstruction is needed.  Many myths regarding this surgery exist. One baseball player that I am helping with rehab just the other day mentioned a common myth to me. He said that a friend was hoping he could get Tommy John surgery. This myth that post Tommy John surgery you will perform better and throw harder is quite common but it is NOT true. Research has shown that only 70-80% return to their previous ability level and that their performance is comparable to others of the same age and ability. Put another way 1 in 5 will never reach their previous ability level and those that do will only equal their previous ability level but have missed a year or more due to surgery and rehab. This surgery should be seen as a way to hopefully preserve a career and not a performance enhancer.

3-Way Hip Circles. Great way to train two areas of the body that are just turned off, weak, dysfunctional, forgotten about...glutes and calves/ankle/foot. It's important to know when doing this that whatever the movement leg is doing the base leg is doing the exact opposite at the exact same speed and intensity. Alot of people coming through my doors with weak feet, collapsed arches, or they make the mistake of wearing orthotics. This either creates weakness in the glutes or coincides with the glutes already being weak from lack of attention, excessive sitting, therapy treatments, or previous trauma. Perform these in bare feet. Force your brain to liven up muscles of the foot that are weakened by shoes and inactivity. Try to work up to sets of 100 each direction each leg...1200 reps baby. Difficulty is...do you know who YOU are and the person YOU want to be? The more people I meet and get involved with the less and less I am able to use the terms genuine and authentic. A great place to start would be to stop watching the news and ads. Don't even look at billboards. Do things by yourself: go to lunch, a movie, on a hike, on vacation, or just walk down the street alone, but don't use your phone as a date or companion. Just be by yourself for extended periods of time. You will make yourself uncomfortable which is hilarious because you are your own company. Lol. I'm laughing because I have done this and do this often and it's hilariously scary how weirded out you can get by being by yourself. See if you can crack yourself up...I do it all the time, to tears sometimes. Lol. Bottom line is the real you is amazing. I can promise you that. Nobody doesn't have within them this infinite spirit of limitless potential to do anything we freakin want or that we can dream up. Trust you.
