The cover of Manson's 1998 album "Mechanical Animals" was deemed offensive by major U.S. retailers K-Mart, Wal-Mart and Target, and they refused to sell it. Wal-Mart was particularly unimpressed with Manson, and following the Columbine shootings in 1999, decided to not sell any of his previous music as well. In 2003, they changed their tune and sold huge amounts of Manson's "Golden Age of Grotesque," claiming it was OK because the album was "commercially viable" and "on the Top Ten charts.”
