Josh Howard and David Johnson taking questions on Howard's documentary The Lavender Scare, inspired by Johnson's book of the same name, which tell of the homophobic witch hunt in the US federal government that resulted in tens of thousands of LGBT employees being fired simply for their sexual identity.
The firings began in the 1950s, and only ended in 1995 when President Clinton signed an order ending them. Secretary of State John Kerry issued a formal apology in January of this year. The Trump administration immediately deleted all mention of this apology from government web sites less than a month later.
Those in my life who voted for Trump wonder why I have been so infuriated, why my community is so up in arms. This is what my nation's government thinks of the value of its LGBT citizens.
