It's a long train ride from Chisinau to Bucharest. 14 hours, usually; 18 if you make it during a snowstorm.
The journey feels most tedious when you come to a standstill at the Moldovan-Romanian border, where the wheels of the train are changed for a different gauge. The reason for this? During the second world war, Stalin decided a different railway width in Eastern Europe would impede any Nazi advance.
Seventy years later, this decision continues to slow travel between the east and west.

D59B coffee roastery in Belgrade last weekend. One of those super-relaxed, sunny Sundays with people of all ages and dogs of all sizes chilling, drinking the good stuff, while as many people worked the turntables as the coffee machine. All in all, quite a vibe.
