Got my 90s on last night. (Though I never dressed like that during the actual 90s)
I'm thankful for this country and the freedoms it provides. That I have the right to an education, to read what I'd like, walk down the street wearing what I choose. That I have the right to vote, and to have that vote be counted... in a series of 50 separate state elections with few term limits, unlimited corporate and special-interest funds, and gerrymandered districts... but I digress. That I can worship whom I want, love and marry any fellow adult that would have me. I get to eat what I want, seek out whatever job I'd like and expect to be evaluated on my merits. I can choose if I want to be a mother, choose if I want to travel or move. I have the freedom to make some truly stupid decisions or some smart ones, but they are my decisions. As I celebrate a day off from work, I am reminding myself to spend my energies making sure these freedoms are expanding outward like the universe - that the chance of being safe, healthy, and free is rising. I want these to be expectations for all and not luxuries for people who look/talk/live/love/think like me. And that's going to mean big tricky thoughts and conflicting rights and messes. I've got to jump into the messes, not let my rights bubble protect me from it. Happy Independence Day! Let's keep earning it.
I think I'm ready to be done with work for the day.
I met this dog today
This boy, my boy. He left this morning for a grand(parent) adventure and I miss him already.
I think if you look up "Bad Idea" in the dictionary, this is what you would find.
