This trip to Brazil has been a transformative experience for me. It has open my eyes to the movement I'm apart of and fostered deep relationships that will last for eternity. I'm going to miss these inspiring people, who have persevered through the most difficult things life could throw at them — all to serve God in astonishing ways. They are a true example of extraordinary. It amazes me how one small plane ride can hold the seed of transformation. #brazil#rio#riodejaneiro#familia#framingfaith#libras#signlanguage
Carlos grew up as a deaf child in the favelas of Rio De Janeiro. At 15 years old, he came to Christ.
Today he is a pastor of a deaf ministry within a hearing church in Rio. He is a father to a 13 year old hearing son and a 5 year old deaf daughter. Because of the lack of infrastructure for deaf children, Carlos sends his daughter to a hearing Sunday School although she can not understand what is being taught. Because of the need for deaf Bible resources for children, Carlos works at night on a sign language project to provide curriculum that will minister to not only all of Brazil’s deaf children, but also to his own daughter.
Over 1.4 million of the 6.3 million people live in favelas, or slums in Rio. They are all over the city, but some say favelas are not always a problem - sometimes they can be a solution.
