I love design, technology, traveling, meeting artists and building businesses that incorporate all four. Including: www.findiklidesign.com and
Humbling day in Rikuzentakata: a city in reconstruction following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. The resulting tsunami reached 13M high (marked in red) & wiped out 12% of the population.
This picture is from one of the three remaining buildings in the city, they only kept those with zero mortalities. The white wall in the distance has since been built to help protect from the next "attack"
Had a somber early morning conversation with mayor Futoshi Tobu (read his story, it's amazing. He lost his wife in the tsunami weeks after being elected) around rebuilding & the struggles that accompany an aging population.
They have ~1,000 foreign visitors a year and tourism is a big bet they are making for the future. If you make it up north, visit them! Damn they are nice. And be sure to try the shoyu ice cream
