Today's #SignOfResistance is by @micahbazant. 15-year-old #JordanEdwards was the 105th Black person killed by police in 2017. We've read reports that say he was an honor student, a lovely kid. This should not matter. He should be alive regardless. His killing is horrifying and heartbreaking regardless. He should have been able to grow up regardless. Police violence is a racial justice issue, a civil rights issue, and a reproductive rights issue. Today, and every day, we remember these words from our Unity Principles: we reject all forms of violence, particularly violence perpetrated by those who claim to protect and serve the people. We believe in accountability and justice in cases of police brutality and ending racial profiling and targeting of communities of color, especially Black and Indigenous communities, and queer, trans, and disabled communities which are disproportionately harmed by police violence.
We will not stop shouting from the rooftops that #BlackLivesMatter and that the police violence and pervasive anti-Blackness that robs Black children of their childhoods must end.
