Traveling for work is physically draining. It sucks to be away from home, oftentimes all alone in a strange city. (Not to mention the havoc it wreaks on one's inbox.) I try to make the best of it by fitting in brief moments of speed-sightseeing and excellent meals. 🏙🍽 .
Last night in Nashville, I visited @lttleoctopus for a Miami-inspired, rum-infused, umami feast, hand-delivered by the chef himself. Serendipity sat me next to another solo business-lady in town from SF. What's more delightful — conversation with a new friend over a shared meal? Or watching the line cooks dance? We got both. ✨ Thank you, Chef @danherget, for treating this tired out-of-towner like a Caribbean queen. 💃🏽🍹.
\\\\\\ #LittleOctopus Dinner time role call — Oyster on harissa; a coconutty-pineapply cocktail in a mug called "Pusser's Painkiller (was very confused when the server asked if I wanted another painkiller); beets with sunchoke purée (I'm going to attempt to make this one); wood ear mushroom farro (favorite!); eggplant with cashew cream; octopus with chorizo. 👌🏽
Nashville twice in two weeks, lucky me 🤠🎸 Fun fact: Southerners don't like it when coastal folk call their cities "cute". But I can't help it, LOOK AT HOW CUTE. 😍
Parked under the big beautiful tree in our front yard as usual. But was greeted this morning by a new springtime development: my car covered in sap! 🌳🚙 The optimist in me is looking at this as an opportunity to visit a local business: my new neighborhood car wash joint.
Spam, egg, fish balls, mussels, shrimp, octopus, steak, crab, tofu, tofu skin, mushrooms, zucchini, corn, and cilantro 🐷 Quite a lot of stuff to fit into one bowl, which is why the rice and noodles come on the side. #TBT to my solo dinner in Sac, a few weeks ago.
My cool guy hiking buddy pal 😎

Downtown Culver City from another angle. 🌸 Every nook and cranny of this little town is too quaint to handle. I'm so glad we didn't move too far. 🏡 #HomeAwayFromHome
Only natural that our first #Norooz in our new home be a vibrant one. 💕🏡💞 Eid mobarak to everyone on this first day of Spring and sacred celebration of nature and family. Norooz offers something for everyone. If you're not familiar with the holiday, ask your closest Persian about it! 💐🌻🌷🌼🌹🌸 It's the time of year we're happiest and proudest to be who we are and to represent the motherland. 🇮🇷 |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Now, let's get superficial and talk about this funky sofreh. Was definitely inspired by @britandco's recent exploits with pattern and color (the geometric plate is a cheeseboard!). 🔶 Mixed textures: a scrap of astroturf for ever-lasting sabzeh, wood planks for height, and a Moscow mule mug because I love its reflective material. Again, nixing the cruelty to animals (per @kylemurphey request) and put up @peterhanstyle's fish art instead of live fishies. 🐠 My hyacinth has yet to bloom, so I'm happily displaying the wooden tulips I picked up in Holland last year (visiting @miranda.dcro!). 🌷Because samanu continues to be gross, we're masquerading coffee syrup from @kaitlinmurphey in its place. Holy book is none other than my favorite, #hitchikersguidetothegalaxy. Just missing seeb (apple), but we're low carb this year so we doubled the eggs instead 😂
Doesn't look like much, but it's my first tahdig, and it came out perfect. A #norooz miracle! 🍚💐 (I have yet to master "the flip"... that's next on the list of Persian domesticity).
