My mom passed away a week ago after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. A few days before she died she stopped talking, but every now and then she'd show acknowledgement of something that was said to her. The last thing I said to her that I know she heard was about dogs. My uncle had driven his dog Bonze from Pittsburgh to Miami and she was in my parents backyard barking. I said to my mom, "you hear bonze out there? It should be annoying, but I'm so glad she's here because you know how I love dogs." I was holding her hand and she turned her head to me and smiled. She died the next day at 5:54 am. Now I'm in Pittsburgh, where she grew up, and my uncle has these photos of her in 1981 with Orion, the dog she had when she met my dad, when my sister was born, when I was born, and who I remember cuddling and trying to help into the pool when he was old and had arthritis because I'd seen on tv that swimming was good for hurt animals. Here's mom, reveling in her dog.
This is my baby niece Harps aka Harper Ann. This is the first time I've drawn a baby and so you could say that I'm a baby at drawing babies and so in that way Harps and I are the same.
"I think onsen-ing is one of my top hobbies. Let's see, there's writing, reading, hockey, onsen-ing, cocktails, and moon. Yeah."
