72 years ago today Dietrich Bonhoeffer was killed at the Nazi concentration camp in Flossenbürg. I took this photo in 2009 at the spot where he was murdered by his government, a government that invoked the name of Christ while also demonizing people of other faiths, nationalities, abilities, sexual orientations, and political parties.
Bonhoeffer saw through the lie of "German Christianity," and chose instead the self-sacrificing Christianity of Jesus. We too must reject the lie of "American Christianity," and choose instead the path of the price of peace, who entered Jerusalem not on a war horse but on a donkey.
Reading chapter 10 of "On Tyranny" by Timothy Snyder feels incredibly appropriate for Holy Week. And the lessons of Holy Week feel incredibly relevant for 2017. Truth matters.
