Vacation provides a perfect opportunity to have your head, heart, and hopes in one present moment. Grateful for European park culture and limited wifi helping me realize just how plugged in and absent minded I've been. ❌📱❌
Happy Birthday @laurenlemon! We're hanging out in an apartment in Amsterdam exploring a new city and it's comfortable and adventurous and full of laughs just like every day life. How cool is it that my best friend is my sister!?
Our first Shmister trip with just each other to Europe and it couldn't be better. (Well, except the getting here part. That sucked but we both knew we didn't have to worry about the other person amongst all the suck and that is great.)
Lauren, I'll sit and stare/bike 2.5 miles in the rain with you any city and any adventure. It's my favorite activity and it's a blessing I get to use you being a photographer to be my scapegoat in why we dress up, find pretty parts of town, plan around the good time of day, and sit near a window to watch. Thank you for being the big sister that helps me get to Europe for your birthday.
@laurenlemon you do things well, and patiently, and with a lot of love and intention.
I've said it today and I'll say it again - there are amazing things around the corner for you and it's all been so so earned.
You're so brave, beautiful, and my best friend.
Now I'm gonna go blush when you read this and eat this piece of prosciutto and cheese you just handed me.
Because. #theshmisters. And it's bed time.
Let the celebration continue!
This weekend's retreat with @wakeupmeditate was everything I love. Outside -> In. Camping, yoga, friends, constant snacks, caring for and tending to any needs all while dressed in comfy desert camping/yoga clothes and no makeup.
I was in my element. I could not be more grateful to these friends allowing me to discover and offer my best self all while loving all that other crud on the side too.
📷Pictured: Casey who saved the day with his help. @hanna.lahandmade who brought the good vibes and hippie healing to the party. @meganisfein who's capable of working harder than anyone with the best damn mood and the most understanding. And @wakeupmeditate... I haven't told him this yet. But he's totally my best friend. God damn grateful and feeling more clear and focused on what I need than I have in a long long time.
More camping yoga retreats on the horizon. #wakeupmeditate#outsideinretreat
The earliest we've ALL hung out without an airBnB or camping trip involved.

It's my Mom's last day of school EVER! @cj_ran has been teaching for 30 years! Mostly 2nd grade but a range of schools and age groups in the mix. Thank you for letting us visit your classroom one more time. I have many fond memories of feeling like VIP in the teachers lounge and watching cartoons on the school TV's after hours.
It's pretty incredible to think of how many lives you change as a teacher. If you know a teacher you know the amount of hours at home grading, planning, and making special treats (always bummed as a kid it was for the class!!!). I can promise you the end of time in a classroom is not the end of changing children's lives and effecting the education system. She already has job offers working on the back end of education, writing curriculum, and effecting the school system in Nevada.
But mostly - I'm really really excited for my Mom to have time to garden, paint, bike, be in love, explore with Greta, and discover new passions all together. @cj_ran you've earned a million mid day naps and hours in a coloring book. Appreciate the fine art of doing less and knowing that you got the letter your last year of teaching - the one teachers hope to get. A student from nearly 30 years ago thanking you for your influence in a brave new world. You know there's many many more students out there who feel the same.
Really grateful to continue learning for a lifetime from the best teacher around. Love you, Mom! Congratulations on retirement!
I'll be back from Reno just in time to teach for Memorial Day and the week!

About yesterday's fun.
Reposted from @laurenlemon's story yesterday. Go watch all the silly before it disappears. Funny my story ended after those half shots yesterday... I've posted some later stories today.
SO grateful for @bsterling & @joeygolaw's generosity and capacity for quality good fun. Thank you for joining @ausernamefordamien - it's not a party without you. @octobeard - your party and stoop was a damn dream come true.
I apparently only sleep under trees and head to San Fran for my birthday each year. I feel great about it. So much fun fake chain smoking cigarettes and writing notes to the city all day. (Go watch #TheLeftovers for reference. Great idea, Brittany)
I'm doing two birthday posts because I WILL NOT BE CONTAINED. And these were both good photos.
I don't have anything super personal and pensive to share this year for my birthday. Well, not right now.... Hopes and dreams feel less for musing on and more for doing.
Just working on cultivating a bunch of good vibes. I love my people. Friends like @ausernamefordamien and @gingerbauc who've I'd had dinner with on my birthday for... 4 years? Hippie friends @jwardramirez with ashwaganda salted cookies and birthday booch from @yesxla. Amazing perfect gifts from @the_eyeminder and @laura_diana_. Park buddies in the morning and busy cocktail friends at night. @laurenlemon planning my whole birthday trip and just about every awesome experience I have always. I dunno. Like I said. Nothing super thoughtful to say about 'nearly thirty' (28 sounds wrong). Just going to do it. Really grateful for you all, the showing up, the messages, the plans to celebrate for the next week/year. Let the birthday weekend continue into Bay To Breakers and more amazing people opening their homes and hearts and being so fucking amazing. Cool. Lets do things.
I made my class take a birthday selfie with me yesterday - and my heart exploded.
I usually go out of town or sleep amongst nature on the ground for my birthday to avoid the birthday hubbub and potential stressors of friends, invitations, money, blah blah. BUT I ended up not leaving for my birthday trip until the day after so I decided to go ahead and 'go to work' (haha) anyway and make some last minute day of plans.
Turns out it was the BEST BIRTHDAY PARTY EVER. Seeing all of my best friends and yoga family show up and do my favorite flows (including making them dance around) and listen to whatever the hell I wanted to listen to. I felt very very loved. I felt enjoyed. I felt like I was really happy I was born and have found my way to a place where I feel so much authentic love from people I cross paths with. People who walk in loving or working towards it. That's a happy birthday.
Yoga is magic because everyone gets what they need from it. Honestly - I needed community and connection. Went to my first class because my aunt taught it, kept going because my mom or friends wanted company, found my first home studio because an old boyfriend did work trade, found @onedowndog because an old teacher and potential sarcastic friend I'd been working on (@oddmamaj) was opening a studio near my house, I always felt like I wanted to offer a block to a homie next to me on the mat, offer self care suggestions to a loved one... I'm the kid that needed yoga to form friendships and to learn how to care for myself and loved ones all at the same time. To find my people to connect with.
And by the looks of this photo and my eyes all welling up now - seems it's done just that and these are 31 of the best gifts I could have hoped for.
Reeeeeeal attitude of gratitude for all of these big loving hearts who teach me so much.
I voted and it took 2 seconds. @arrowthecorgi votes NO on C during dog walks. Polls are open until 8pm.
I'm registered to vote by mail which just means I get my ballot early to remind me it's coming and drop it off and wear a sticker on the day.
It's way too easy - vote, and register to vote by mail. NOW. There are bigger inconveniences than 10 minutes to vote - like 4 years of that dude and not having had a say in anything.
