ISFP. Ardent dog admirer who secretly wants to pet any dogs that passes by. Can live in cafes. Baking and cooking my day away for fun.
Had to get our hands on some Mr. Holmes cruffins! I think the flavour that day was coffee. I didn't get to eat it when it was fresh though since I brought it home to share with my family. But to be honest I think the peaches and cream one I had at @laboulebakery might have been more delicious 😬hahaha.
Their raspberry kouign amann was delicious though! Nice crispy flakey exterior. Josh decided to try out their sushi croissant. They give you soy sauce to go along with it. That was definitely a first for croissants for us haha.
I also bought a churro croissant and it was sooo good! There's cream inside and the outside is sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I would recommend getting that if you had to pick one thing unless you don't usually like pastry cream. In which case I also really enjoyed the kouign amann too so get that 😁.
All love no Haight ✌🏼😉. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Coincidentally we were staying in Haight-Ashbury in SF, in the neighbourhood where it all happened. The neighbourhood has definitely kept its hippy vibes.
Kind of fitting to remember this event this year with all the different groups that have come together to fight for love after the election of the new US president. It seems the spirit is still alive and strong.
Stopped by Snowbird for a Cortado. It was my first time trying it out and I like it! Basically espresso with equal amount of warm milk.
Right across was Arizmendi Bakery. Was going to stop by for a slice of their daily special pizza but saw their Focaccia bread.. it looked too delicious to pass up. It was drenched in olive oil but it was still so good LOL.
Sometimes you end up stumbling upon the most beautiful things when you least expect it.
After eating too much J and I decided to walk home rather than take a bus, which was a 20+ minute walk going uphill most of the time. Our path went past Buena Vista Park and J wanted to go in to explore. The park is in the middle of the city.
We kept heading further and further up until we came upon this. I couldn't capture it so well in my picture but it felt magical. The way the light came through the trees. The way it lit up the flowers right in front of us. We didn't really want to leave.
Miyagi oysters and Sapporo drafts at Nara to end off that night. But we were pleasantly surprised by a random appetizer we decided to order after seeing another person sitting beside us at the bar get it.
It's a Kimchi, Guacamole, Shrimp Taco. The base is made with what seemed to be deep fried wonton wrapper and topped with a Sriracha mayo sauce. The shrimp was a tempura shrimp. It wasn't something we'd usually order but all the flavours melded so well together and the different textures made it really enjoyable.
Ended up chatting with a woman that sat a couple seats down who was in town because her husband had to see a doctor in SF. She went to Nara to enjoy some food as she had been in the hospital for days waiting for results. It really makes you think about how everyone is going through a lot of their own shit so be nice to everyone around you 😊.
I'm hooked 🎣on this. Other ice creams are just no matcha 🍵... 😂😂. Soft serve Matcha ice cream swirled with black sesame ice cream with pocky and anko (red bean paste) serve in a taiyaki, which is a fish-shaped cake that's crispy on the outside and warm and softer on the inside.
Yes.. we had ice cream twice in one day.. 😳
SF's city hall is as big as our legislature 💁🏻. If you look hard enough you'll see a statue of @joshnguyen.io 😜
When J tries to include his drink into my shot but my camera disagrees 😂. I had Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee from Humphry Slocombe and then I went to a real Blue Bottle for coffee right after LOL. Tried out their New Orleans Iced Coffee. The New Orleans version includes chicory when brewing. Blue Bottle uses cold brew coffee for their iced coffee, which I usually enjoy more than regular brewed iced coffee.
Back to regular broadcasting 📸. Tried out @humphryslocombe for ice cream. They're featured quite a lot on blogs and shows. I loveeeee coffee ice cream. This one is based on Blue Bottle's Vietnamese Coffee. I also got the Honey Graham flavour which has blackberry honey ice cream with graham crackers. I love the Viet coffee flavour. It's not overly sweet so it still retains the deep coffee flavour. The honey graham one I had a hard time tasting blackberries so it mainly tasted like honey ice cream with graham crackers.
I'm glad I chose these two together though. The Honey Graham one is quite sweet so the bitter notes in the Viet coffee flavour balanced it out well. I wasn't left in a sugar coma after eating this and I was eating it quite fast we were in a hurry LOL.
