❤️ RIP Sticks the Quail
July 25th, 2013 - September 4, 2015
We got this incredible housewarming gift from @em_hoos and @davidhoospdx - it's a drawing they commissioned from a friend of theirs of us standing in front of the #1883farmhouse.
The likeness is amazing, and they even included Rocky and Sticks (up on the roof). When we opened it I definitely "got something in my eye" if you know what I mean... "My allergies flared up" so to speak... OK I TEARED UP don't tell anyone.
This time last year we released our sweet (and slightly over-acclimated) Selkie the squirrel back into the wide world. Last June was wall-to-wall ducks and quails and mice and raccoons and crows and... you get the picture. So much grief and joy and unending overwhelm.
Today last year was also the first time we saw what would become our current house. We thought it might be a source of stability, a constant while doing things (like wildlife rehab) that take a lot of emotional energy. That hasn't happened yet, but hopefully one day...
Best diorama ever
We made it! Nothing is done, but we're sleeping at the broken-down #1883farmhouse tonight. The master bedroom affords a nice view of a mechanical chase we made by removing an old chimney (left) which we haven't covered yet. Many friends and fam came out to help us move, which made it a breeze.
Even though burying the metal conduit will have to wait until "Phase 2" (or is it part of Phase 3 or 4? I can't never remember) these simple schoolhouse-style ceiling fixtures have made a huge difference in making this room feel 'finished'. And they were the bargain option- from Home Depot!
