On mornings like this when there’s barely any clouds in the sky, I’m reminded of one of my favorite Hebrew names for the Messiah—'Morning Without Clouds'. This may seem weird, but it comes from 2 Samuel 23:4 which says Jesus will be "like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning". The idea is that Jesus’ kingdom will light up the world instantly, like a sunrise when there are no clouds in the sky to block the light.
As a photographer, I prefer cloudy sunrises because of the shadows and contrast the clouds create in the sky and on the landscape. Clouds in the sky also cause the morning light to increase more gradually, so the golden hour that photographers love is naturally extended. But when Jesus returns, God’s Kingdom will not gradually move from darkness to light—it will happen in the blink of an eye.
This idea also connects with the words of one of Jesus' followers named James, who wrote that God "never changes or casts a shifting shadow". (James 1:17). So the next time you see the sun rising on a cloudless morning, be reminded that Jesus—the Morning Without Clouds—is with you. ••• ••• #sunrises #beach #rocks #lensflare #bibledevotion #Bible #biblestudy #bibleverse #encouragement #jesus #church #amen #Christianity #faithful #holyspirit #BibleInPhotos #God #Christ #praisegod #praise #jesussaves #goodnews #fujixt2 #myfujifilm #sunrise🌅

One of Israel's ancient prophets named Malachi once foretold that "… the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in its wings." This was one of the names Jewish believers gave to the coming Messiah, and Malachi was referring to the Messiah's ability to heal with the with the corners of his robe. You see, the word "wings" in Hebrew is "kanafim" which means 'wings', but also means 'corners', as in the corners of a garment.
While we may miss this the significance of this, there’s a story in the Gospels where Jesus goes to a small town where a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years understood the words of Malachi. She knew that she only needed to touch the "kanafim" of Jesus' robe to be healed—and she was!
For most reading these words, this may just be an interesting insight. But I believe there is someone reading this today who needs to be reminded that Jesus can heal you today. • •

When was the last time you were truly silent? No TV. No cell phone. No social media. No emails, radio or any of the other things that constantly interrupt your every day. Mother Teresa once said; "God cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature grass grows in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls." So, when did you last set aside time to simply be still before God?
We are always on the clock, always checking emails, continually reaching for our phones and always texting, posting and messaging. In fact, recent studies show we spend more than four hours on our cell phones every day—reading emails, posting to social media, watching videos and surfing the net. We all want to spend eternity with God ... but it’s as if none of us want to spend time with Him now.
So, do you think you could find five minutes today to silently seek God with all your heart? If so, type YES in the comments and I’ll pray that God speaks to you in that five minutes. • •

The road we walk on in life is full of ups and downs. Sometimes it seems like you're struggling uphill—other times it feels like you're careening downhill out of control. So, if Psalm 23 says that God leads us on "straight" or "right" paths ... what does that mean when your life feels more like a rollercoaster?
In the desert of Israel, shepherds know they can’t lead their sheep straight down a hill because the sheep will stagger out of control, fall down and hurt themselves. So shepherds use their voice to lead their sheep to narrow paths that wind around the hill in which are less steep and allow the sheep to travel down unharmed. These winding sheep paths are called "paths of righteousness". Likewise, if we want to survive life’s ups and downs, we need God to guide us to the paths He has prepared for us. But, we can’t be guided if we’re distracted and don’t hear His voice.
If you’re life feels like a twisting rollercoaster today, focus on God’s voice and let Him guide you to the straight path. I'd like us all to pray for everyone facing a rollercoaster today. Just leave a COMMENT and we’ll LIKE your comment once we’ve prayed for you. • •

When I photograph mountains like these in north Georgia, a verse in the Book of Isaiah comes to mind that says: “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken". The Hebrew word translated as 'love' here is "hesed", which is a hard word to define. Theologian John Oswalt says hesed is "… a completely undeserved kindness and generosity …". Hesed is not just a feeling, it's an action. It "… intervenes on behalf of loved ones and comes to their rescue" according to Lois Tverberg.
Hesed is not romantic love. It’s faithful. It’s reliable. It’s a wife praying for years for her husband to know God. It’s a dad once again bailing out his drug-addicted son. It’s parents who lovingly care daily for their autistic child.
Today, you can rely on God’s 'hesed' for you no matter what you face—because He cannot be shaken. • •

The morning I took this photo, the water of Corio Bay in Australia was smooth and the air was still. I spent more than an hour watching the boats as the sun rose over the horizon, and was fully aware of the serenity around me the whole time. Have you ever noticed that it’s only when we slow down that we realize just how busy we are?
Jesus had a rhythm of doing his work, and then resting. He would speak to large crowds or heal a group of people, and then take time off. The disciples wanted him to maintain his momentum, but Jesus would say no, and instead take time out to rest and recharge. We see tis over and over in the stories written about his life in the Bible.
As Christians, I think it’s easy to get so caught up in following the STEPS of Jesus, that we miss the STOPS of Jesus.
If you need to remember to follow Jesus’ steps and stops today, COMMENT with STOP and we will all pray for you—and we’ll like your comment to let you know we’ve prayed. • •

Just about every major city in the world has a river running through it. In New York it’s the Hudson. In London it’s the Thames. Paris has the Seine. This is Melbourne which has the Yarra River. These rivers were once vital to the life of the city because they provided a supply line that allowed boats loaded with food and other goods to reach the people. Today these rivers are still a source of life because so many restaurants and hotels are located on their banks.
The ancient Jews called rivers "mayim chayim"—which means "living water"—because for a people living in the desert, this water literally provided life. Once, at an annual feast called Sukkot, which celebrated God’s provision of living water, Jesus stood and said anyone who followed him would have living water streaming out of them. He was saying that his followers would be refreshing and life-giving to everyone they came in contact with.
Will you be a source of life and refreshment to your friends, neighbors or co-workers today? • •

Whenever I have imagined the green pasture of Psalm 23, I always thought it looked something like this. This fits the verse right? "The Lord is my shepherd, I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams". These are green pastures—at least where I live.
But in a field like this with endless grass and shade, a sheep doesn’t really need a shepherd at all because they have all that they could possibly want. And it’s important to remember that the verse says "all that I NEED", not "all that I WANT". That line does not mean you won't ever need anything again! If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my spiritual journey it’s that God doesn’t always give you the circumstances or people that you WANT—but He does give you the circumstances and people that you NEED.
Maybe it's time we changed our perspective. • •

The morning I took this photo near Eastern Beach in Geelong, Australia, everything was quiet. The water was calm. The air was still. Most people would consider this peaceful. The Hebrew word for 'peace' is "shalom", but this is only part of the definition. Shalom also means 'health', 'safety' and my favorite, 'completeness’. So to have "shalom with God" is to have a complete, unbroken relationship with Him. To be whole.
When Jesus said; "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you", he was referring to the sort of complete relationship with God that he enjoys. This is salvation! While we often think being "saved" is about being in heaven when we die, it’s also about having an unbroken, complete relationship with God here on earth. That’s shalom! Don’t miss that … salvation is when our relationship with God is complete, which is the definition of shalom!
Today, I am praying that everyone who reads these words would truly know the peace or ‘shalom' of God. • •

About 2000 years ago in the time of the Bible, a person's neighbors could see how much faith they had simply by looking over their fence to see the size of the corners of their crops. See, in the Book of Leviticus, God told His people to leave the corners of their land uncut when they harvested so poor families could pick the leftover grain and have food to eat. This meant that people who were generous and trusted God to provide for their needs had big corners on their land, while those who lacked faith in God’s provision had small corners, so they harvested close to the edges of their land.
So ... if we were able to look over your fence, what would we see? Do you have faith that God will provide for you today? Are you generous to those around you who are in need?
How big are your corners? • •

The morning I took this photo, the weather was cold and foggy. Do you ever wake up feeling like the world is like this—cold and foggy? The stress of work, unresolved issues at home, unanswered emails, sickness, tiredness, pressure and SO many other things can leave us flat when we wake up in the morning.
For 1000s of years, Jews have recited a prayer the moment they wake up that focusses their attention on God. The prayer is called the “shema" which is a Hebrew word meaning 'hear' but it also means 'obey'. Shema implies action. It’s the word Jesus used when he said "he who has ears, let him hear", which was his way of telling his followers to not just listen to his words—but to obey them too! As a Jew, Jesus would have prayed the shema first thing every morning—as soon as he opened his eyes—as way of committing himself to loving God and obeying His word that day.
I wonder how much better your mornings would be if the first thing you did when you woke up was to commit yourself to loving God and to obeying His word. • •

One of my favorite old Jewish proverbs says: "A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in". The idea is that the things we do today will impact our children and our children’s children. It’s a reminder that the world is changed by your example, not your opinion.
I love this saying for two reasons:
1. It causes me to look beyond myself.
2. It influences how I read scripture.
You see, Jews refer to the Bible as a "Tree of Life" ... so the seeds of scripture that you plant in yourself by studying and living out the Word TODAY will impact you, your children, and your grandchildren.
Are you planting seeds for yourself and future generations today? •
