The middle two panels of Marc Chagall's America Windows at the @artinstitutechi. Together, all 6 panels depict the the arts of music, painting, literature, theater, and dance. They represent our country's cultural and religious freedom and were a gift from the artist to the museum. It is such a beautiful representation of what this country is supposed to be about.
It's a beautiful day for a walk in the park. ☀️⛲️This weekend @newberrylibrary is hosting a book fair with over 12,000 books for sale starting at just $3. It'll be open to the public on Thursday and Friday from noon - 8pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 6pm. The sale includes cookbooks, fiction, art books, children’s literature, collectibles, movies, records, and much, much more. All proceeds benefit the Newberry Library. I hope to see you all there this weekend!
#HastyBookList The more I read, the more I appreciate a book that's just different...something that I haven't seen before. I got that with White Fur by @jardinelibaire. And an added bonus: the author is a master of similes. On page three she wrote, "...the house is forlorn like a society girl forced to get a job." I love that imagery.
Looking south from @thejohnhancockcenter's Signature Lounge. Also...I dropped off two books at the @littlefreelibrary for the residents of John Hancock Center! A special thank you to your door man who helped deliver them for me, he was so sweet! Hope you enjoy 😊 📖
The Second Presbyterian Church is home to 9 Tiffany Glass windows, including the oldest known Tiffany window in Chicago. The Friends of Historic Second Church give tours every Wednesday (1-3pm), Saturday (11am-3pm), and Sunday (12:15pm). Our guide was very informative about the windows and the restoration process. We even got a private concert but the organist. It is within a few blocks of @glessnerhousemuseum and @clarkehousemuseum - so you could make a day of touring this neighborhood.
The @glessnerhousemuseum is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. I first heard about t almost a year ago on a tour with @chiarchitecture - it doesn't look like much on the outside but the interior and back courtyard are surprisingly delightful. But the real highlight was learning about Mrs. Glessner who hosted a weekly reading class (I totally would have been a member) and often invited people over for afternoon tea (like me!) Plus, her daughter created miniatures of crime scenes that helped law enforcement officers learn forensic techniques. So. Cool.
This is my last photo from the Hotel Boom tour with @chiarchitecture (for now 😉) My husband lived in Marina City (those 🌽 buildings on the right) for a summer internship three years ago. That's when we decided we wanted to move to Chicago. We've been residents for a year now and we love it more every day...especially when we can take in views like this any ole time we want. 😍
Another photo from my Hotel Boom tour with @chiarchitecture (obviously @lhchicago was one of my favorite stops!) Did you know that LondonHouse got its name from an old jazz supper club that was once housed in the historic part of this building? Next time you're walking by, note how the horizontal lines of the contemporary building mimic the horizontal lines of the historic building...I love that continuity.
#HastyBookList Party Girls Die in Pearls has that same cheeky charm of @therealplumsykes' previous books. It is perfect for a quick sit-down with a light, fun, entertaining read. It is about the investigation of a murder during the first week of classes at Oxford and one eager freshers attempt to solve the mystery. Visit www.hastybooklist.com for my full review.
All last week I was feeling frustrated with my workouts: everything seemed more difficult and I didn't leave feeling strong. Then I got a massage and my masseuse asked if I had changed my workout routine because she thought I felt stronger. 🤦♀️So I gotta say thank you to @thebarrecode instructors for making me work harder! I didn't like you much last week but whatever you're doing is working! 💪 💕
#HastyBookList The final book in @kevinkwanbooks Crazy Rich Asians Series, Rich People Problems, was my favorite of the three! It had a little bit of architecture, WWII history, and (as always in this series) great fashion. Visit www.hastybooklist.com for my full review of this book.
