This week's print was inspired by yesterday's #womensmarch. I won't get into the political nitty gritty here—but suffice to say, it was pretty inspiring to see so many people around the world come together in peaceful protest to advocate for equal rights.
I did also geek out a bit on the design of the banners and placards …
This week was more about getting grips with the different blades, and the cuts they make in the lino. I learned that curves are hard; and that straight lines are hard too. I can see why there is a trend towards more organic shapes that forgive imperfections in the cut … And with that in mind, it's time to start planning for next week’s print.
Happy new year. 1/52
One of my resolutions for 2017 is to do some more creative design work, so I've set myself the challenge of producing a lino print a week … And this is my first attempt. I just jumped straight in—without thinking too much about how best to use the different blades to best cut out the design—and the result is a little lumpy. I've got loads to (re-)learn, and I'm looking forward to figuring out how to do this better over the coming weeks. Let me know if you have any tips!
