Retreat. Always healing, always renewing, always enriching, and always refreshing. It's a challenge to return back to the fast-paced and chaotic lifestyle of being a graduate student. I spent the last two weeks with plenty of open space to do nothing but think about my mind and reflect upon my life. A break from reality? Sometimes. But it doesn't feel like a vacation. I did a lot of work on myself on the land, on the cushion, and even in my dreams. Now begins the process of reintegrating meditative insights with the life I live back at home. I'll need about a week to transition. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the love and zen I feel in my heart ❀

Just got back from another 2 week mountain retreat Saturday afternoon. I took a body scan before I left and after I got back. Before I left I was 125.7lbs, and 19% bf, but my body composition was exactly the same. Looks like I managed to drop about 6lbs and over 2% of my body fat during the time I was gone! But I maintained all my muscle πŸ’ͺ🏽 always good news!

Just got back from another 2 week mountain retreat Saturday afternoon. I took a body scan before I left and after I got back. Before I left I was 125.7lbs, and 19% bf, but my body composition was exactly the same. Looks like I managed to drop about 6lbs and over 2% of my body fat during the time I was gone! I've been a bit MIA lately, especially with fitness posts πŸ™ˆ but here's an update! IM BACK! πŸ’ͺ🏽 I spent dec 13-jan 9 on the east coast, visiting friends and spending time with family for the holidays. I worked out only about 1-2 times a week during that period, because I honestly haven't had much of a break all year. It was nice to eat home cooked food and relax with the people I love! I wanted to take every opportunity to enjoy myself, so yes, I ate dessert, I had cookies and cake and coquito. But I didn't go overboard! I only gained about 3lbs and most of it was water (possibly from the changes in altitude). I'm not worried or stressed about it and I'm looking forward to getting back in the gym full time! Since I've been back, I got myself a new car, and as of yesterday, another roommate. I have more news but I will wait to talk about that. Good things are coming! This year I will continue to push myself and work hard in grad school, in the gym, and on the rock wall! 2017 will be another year of improvement and will mark my third year in my fitness journey. Got a little climbing in tonight! Went to #rockville climbing center in Trenton NJ with my best friend @jaeminlim on a whim. It was fun (but a bit pricey)! Unfortunately we had no chalk and Rockville was out, so I was limited to easier routes since my hands were sweaty. So I decided to try climbing for speed instead, which was still a great time! Sometimes I forget how muscular my back looks πŸ™Š it's always awesome to see myself in action! πŸ’ͺ🏽😏

Anyone who's knows me well knows I'm obsessed with these little old men right here ❀️ I love my poochies! We have Hershey (the chocolate one), Bryce (the little one), and Preston (my big baby). Hershey is 9, going to be 10 in August, and Preston and Bryce are brothers from the same litter and they're going to be 11 in March. I was tagged by @whoa_fat.freddy to post 10 things I'm good at. I'm up for the challenge! I've been working hard to be more positive since I started my fitness journey so here it goes.
1. I'm good at cooking. I've been helping my mother in the kitchen since I was young and learned to make all the Puerto Rican classics. My empanadas are to die for, seriously! 2. I'm good at dancing. My parents taught my brother and I the basics of salsa, merengue, and bachata and I've been told I'm pretty good at it now! 3. I'm good at improvising. Whether it's with a musical instrument or in life, I'm good at finding a way to make things work. 4. I'm good at performing. I spent most of my life performing in recitals, marching band, symphonic bands, small ensembles, musicals, choruses and choirs. I now feel comfortable on a stage in front of hundreds of people, or more. 5. I am good at public speaking. When I was a sophomore in high school, I had a teacher tell me I had a gift for speaking. To this day, I enjoy giving speeches and have always looked forward to presentations in school! 6. I'm good at writing. My writing really took off in undergrad. Now that I'm in grad school, I've been told I'm a fantastic story teller and academic writer, and can seamlessly weave the two. It's a great feeling! 7. I'm good at hearing (musically). I've been training my ear for about 18 years now and my ear is definitely my strongest musical asset, and sense perception. 
8. I'm good at writing in cursive. I learned how when I was in first grade at a private catholic school, and now I predominantly write in cursive. 9. I'm good at building upper body strength/muscle. Perhaps it's because I have smaller hips and wider shoulders, but I also push myself pretty damn hard. My first visible muscles were my biceps, at 12 years old. 10. I'm good at making people laugh. I love to make others smile and I can find the humor in any situation, appropriate for the people around me. I've always been told I'm funny!
